Welcome
My name is Barbara Hendrie and I am an experienced counsellor, accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, working in a community counselling organisation ,for employer assisted programmes, and privately in Musselburgh in East Lothian. I began my professional career in 1986 as a teacher, then community development worker, before I qualified and began practising as a counsellor in 1998. I have a long experience in building supportive relationships with others in my work .
Any of us can become stressed or low when life feels difficult, and we all need trusting relationships to stay well emotionally. We may be able to turn to friends or family for support, but it can also be a relief to talk to a counsellor who is trained to listen without passing judgement, and who will give you the space and help you need to explore, understand and gain insight for yourself so you can feel more able to see a way forward.
With over 25 years' experience as a generic counsellor in community counselling organizations I have worked both short and longer term with people of all ages and backgrounds, exploring difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, work, relationships ( although I only work with individuals not couples), childhood issues, abuse, parenting/caring, health, culture, life transitions, trauma, loss and change, as well as general personal development . I am committed to my own growth through personal therapy / development, because counsellors are required to make an ongoing commitment to self-knowledge as an essential foundation for helping others.
Please read on to find out more, and feel welcome to contact me - I would be happy to talk with you about any queries you may have about coming for counselling.
